For PE pipe and profile sourcing, the applicable product standard is more useful than a generic request for “pipe grade.” It establishes the performance and documentation framework the resin must support.
Define the finished product
State pipe, conduit, sheet or profile, dimensions, pressure class where applicable, service environment and extrusion line. Include the exact standard or customer specification.
Translate the standard into resin fields
Provide density, MFR/MFI, colour, UV package and long-term or mechanical requirements with their test methods. Identify any potable-water, gas, infrastructure or other approval needed.
Verify the offered grade
Require the producer name and grade code and review its TDS, SDS, COA and approval records. Grade substitution should follow the buyer’s qualification procedure, not a visual comparison of pellets.
