PP for Injection Molding: How to Define the Grade

A framework for matching PP family and grade to a molded part using flow, impact, stiffness, shrinkage, appearance and compliance.

The molded part should lead the PP discussion. Homopolymer, random copolymer and impact copolymer are starting families, not interchangeable descriptions of one grade.

Describe the part and process

Provide part geometry, wall thickness, mold, cycle, machine, service temperature and appearance. An existing approved grade is a useful reference but should not replace the performance requirements.

Define measurable targets

State MFR test condition, impact, stiffness, shrinkage, clarity or other relevant properties. Include colour, additives, recycled-content policy and regulatory needs.

Review the actual offer

Require producer and grade code, then compare TDS, SDS, batch COA and applicable declarations. Trial and part approval remain the buyer’s responsibility.
