Calcium carbide production requires a carbon material that fits the plant’s burden preparation, furnace practice and quality-control system. A buyer should therefore assess semi coke as part of the complete process rather than approve it from one laboratory value.

Translate the process into purchasing fields

Begin by identifying the furnace route, lime characteristics, current carbon source and target operating window. State whether semi coke will be used alone, blended or evaluated in a trial. These details guide the discussion about carbon, ash, moisture, size and fines.

Carbon and ash

Fixed carbon is a primary comparison field, but the reporting basis must be clear. Ash represents non-carbon material entering the burden, and plants may need more than a total-ash percentage when individual ash constituents influence furnace or product behavior. Define any additional analysis before quotation.

The Zhonghao catalog lists fixed carbon ≥84% and ash ≤8% as procurement references. Final limits and the applicable test method remain subject to order confirmation.

Moisture and volatile matter

Moisture affects received weight, storage, handling and the condition of material entering the process. Volatile matter may also influence furnace behavior. Compare offers on the same basis and identify where the sample is taken. If moisture at destination is commercially important, define the inspection point and remedy in the contract.

Particle size and fines

A nominal size range is not enough unless fines and oversize are addressed. Consider conveying, transfer points, storage and burden permeability. The Zhonghao catalog provides four reference ranges: 75–35 mm, 35–18 mm, 18–8 mm and below 6 mm. The selected range should be confirmed against the buyer’s equipment and process.

Trial and acceptance plan

Before a large change, establish a trial quantity, blend ratio and evaluation criteria. Record the baseline and review material consumption, burden condition, operating stability and product-quality results using the plant’s own qualified methods.

Information for the supplier

  • Furnace route and intended use
  • Current material and desired replacement ratio
